Food ordered [07/21/12]:
- bran and date muffin
- blueberry scone
As a child, I loved their almond cookies. They have several types but the ones I'm talking about are thin, rectangular and have sliced almonds in them. I don't have any photos of them unfortunately, but they usually reside in the bottom row of the bakery display case. Crispy, yet substantial, and just slightly sweet-- I haven't had one for years but still remember what they taste like. The scone I had on this occasion was perfectly moist yet still fluffy. They, as well as the muffins, were also probably just smaller than the size of your fist (well, my fist to be exact) which was a welsome change from the gargantuan scones and muffins you can find at many franchise and chain cafes and bakeries.
My Mother and I attended the bakery late on a Sunday afternoon. Perhaps it was our untimeliness but the bakery seemed to be less busy than usual. The space itself was more run-down than I remember and they had less varieties of cookies and pastries on display. My Mother even commented that the once-full display of full-sized cakes now seemed to be in disuse. Perhaps their business is being edged out by the big-name chain coffee bars and bakeries but I don't believe the quality of their goods is any less for it.
